Dr. Indarjit Singh, Director of the Network of Sikh Organisations, London - CBE for services to inter- faith and community relations Dr. Indarjit Singh's career path led him from engineering to management consultancy, and more recently to broadcasting. He is a regular contributor to Radio Four's ' Thought for the Day' and Radio Two's ' Pause for Thought' programmes. Singh has over 30 years of experience working with the Network of Sikh Organisations, and also as one of the founders and directors of the Inter- faith Network for the UK. " I believe that religion has a lot to contribute to society. By co- operating together we can all increase prosperity in the world, and resolve family breakdowns and social problems. Receiving this award will allow me to push to solve these problems by promoting understanding with other faiths and changing social policy with local and central government". Dr. Singh is not a stranger to the Queen's Honours, as he was awarded an OBE in 1997. Three years ago he was listed in The Independent newspaper's list of ' Top 50 British citizens who have contributed to World Peace'. Additionally, he was the first non- Christian to receive the £ 1 million Templeton Prize, recognised as the world's best prize for religion, for the furtherance of spiritual and ethical understanding. Lakhbir Kaur, Hayes, Middlesex - OBE for services to the media industry and to Asian broadcasting Better known as Lucky Dhillon, Lakhbir Kaur's programme ' Amrit Vela' on Spectrum Radio was the first in Europe to be broadcast live from the Golden Temple, Amritsar. Lucky has spent over 20 years as a broadcaster in the United Kingdom. Lucky is passionate about her show, which is aired seven days a week. On being asked about her program, she proudly says, " My programme is very spiritual and attracts listeners of all faiths and all ages. The concept of seva is an important part of my work, and over the years my programme has helped raise and donate funds for charities in the UK, India and Pakistan." Lucky, who has been battling cancer, welcomes the OBE as a " nice surprise" after a " tough year". Lucky was awarded an honorary MBA doctorate from the University of East London. She also won the category for Media Professional at the Asian Woman of Achievement Awards in 2007 adding to her list of accolades. Dr. Surinder Singh Jolly - MBE for services to Healthcare, Manchester Doctor Surinder Singh Jolly has treated patients in Whitefield for two decades at his practise, The Jolly Medical Centre in Crumpsall. One of his main interests is promoting the education of healthcare in ethnic communities, to reduce the rates of life- threatening illnesses such as heart disease. Commenting on his work, Dr. Jolly says, " a lot of my patients are from the Indian sub- continent, and I am continually striving to raise awareness of health issues. More than half the battle is won by doing this." He feels that being awarded the MBE brings recognition for his grassroots attitude towards his patients.
